Well, I can tell you what Evangeline Lilly told me: "I'm at the mercy of the writers as much as the audience is; I just have to keep rolling with the punches...So far, they haven't thrown me any curveballs, but you never know." Sounds to me like the writers are staying the Skate course. Sorry, Jaters. For the record, I am neither a Skater nor a Jater but a SkaJater, meaning I want my Skaters and Jaters all to feel the love. Well, there's a lot going on as far as that mysterious visitor from last week, who you probably figured out by the credits is Miss Marsha Thomason from Las Vegas. (Maybe she blew off a Vegas rooftop like Lara Flynn Boyle and landed on Lost island?) She is a major twist to the plot, from what I hear. I also hear that [read only if you want to know!] this week there will be shocking moment when the fallen angel (Thomason) tells Hurley the fate of the real (wtf?!) Oceanic Flight 815.

We'll definitely see more of Sawyer and Sayid working together. How far they've come—from torture to teamwork! Yay, S & S! Plus, sounds like Penny's dad, Charles Widmore, may be seen again. Alan Dale (also Big Daddy Meade on Ugly Betty) tells me, "When I was at the Golden Globes, one of the executive producers came up to me and asked, 'Would you like to come back?' And I said yes, of course, if we can work it out, although obviously Betty comes first." If only his son Daniel Meade had such priorities! (Did that last ep break your heart or what?)

On still-mysterious Lost, no season-finale is complete without someone dying. Who that will be is still anyone's guess. The survivors of Flight 815 will have another showdown with the "Others," the origins of the Dharma Initiative will be explained, and the beach occupants divide into two camps: one run by Jack (Matthew Fox) and the other Sawyer (Josh Holloway). One old face you will not be seeing is Harold Perrineau as Michael, who actually turned down an opportunity to return in the season finale. The search for redemption follows many paths.
For the lost souls on Lost, efforts at salvation vary from small acts of kindness that promote forgiveness to sudden acts of violence that promise freedom. For the show itself, redemption consists of a string of solid, and sometimes superb, episodes that has firmly re-established Lost in TV's top ranks, in quality if not popularity.

That climb to the top continues tonight with an excellent hour focused on Locke (Terry O'Quinn) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway). Where Locke seems to have lost his way, his faith turning to bitter doubt, Sawyer has begun to find himself and his place in the beach community.

Now their journeys cross, as Locke leaves The Others to seek Sawyer's help. What he wants from Sawyer and why he thinks Sawyer will comply are best left for viewers to discover. But it leads to one of the show's darkest and most morally complex outings yet, one few other shows would dare to attempt.

And since so many seem to have become fixated on this one point: It does provide an answer to an important, lingering question from the first season, along with a potential answer to the most important question of them all. Just remember, however, that answers are not necessarily universal or true.

Progress also is made on other fronts as the show speeds toward the finale and further explores the fractures in its beachfront solidarity. Jack learns a painful secret while revealing he has one of his own. And the mysterious pilot repeats last week's bombshell, the message that the wreckage from their flight was found and everyone on it was dead.

The good news for fans is that the producers seem to realize the show has to be accessible enough to keep a mass audience involved and has to focus on characters the audience wants to see. That means diverting attention back to the main camp and away from The Others. But that also means the story will last as long as the series lasts, a simple TV truth that seems to have escaped some of the show's more contentious, answer-eager fans.

Still, it's clear they've heard you. And as often happens, they've let Jorge Garcia's lovable Hurley humorously address audience concerns. As Sayid fiddles with the newly discovered transmitter, Hurley asks him, "What about the other part? The part about they found a plane and we're all dead?" "One thing at a time," Sayid answers.
When "one thing" leads to an episode this good, why leave the path now?

Okay. But will the flashback structure be part of the show going forward?

So when Locke DID hear JACOB, that really got...that freaked Ben out. That was a threat to Ben and his primacy. So he led him over to the pit and he shot him, 'cause he doesn't want his leadership of the Others challenged by John Locke.

(7) Show Seasons are designed around major story concepts. Season 3 was all about the Others, etc.
CUSE: "When you watch the finale, you'll get a pretty good idea of what Season 4 is gonna be about."

( JACOB is NOT an alien, as parallels to Walt's comic book might suggest.

(9) We will see more of The Purge.
What we saw was "only a taste of things to come."
Marvin Candle and others will be revisited.

(10) The powdery substance surrounding JACOB's cabin, and seen in his chair, may be volcanic ash.
In combination with other substances, this powder is probably confining JACOB.

(11) Did Ben kill Annie in The Purge too?
Annie will be revisited in a future "chapter" of the show.

(12) We will see the DHARMA shark again. It has a name: "JIM" (or "EZRA JAMES SHARKINGTON" in jest).
Hydra Station was used to study marine creatures. The shark's markings will be explained.

For instance, we'll know more about get a little defensive when you ask when the Others' bug-eyed leader, Ben (Michael Emerson). And though "Lost" isn't known for its romance, there will be some :really significant developments that occur in the romantic quadrangle of Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Juliet in the finale – two that will be surprising for the audience," Cuse says.

Finally, the fight between the Losties and the Others finally comes to a head, and five people will die, although not all of them will be major cast members

Ausiello: Sounds like someone didn't read my blind item very carefully. I refer to the duo in question as "former costars." Last time I checked, Matthew Fox and Elizabeth Mitchell were both still on Lost. That's just plain sloppy.
